Carlos Aguilar Phillips, age 72, of Abingdon, MD, died on December 27, 2010 at his home. Born in Merida Yucatan, Mexico, he was the son of the late Carlos Aguilar Palma and Florence Lillian Phillips. An avid reader, he loved to paint and had a great sense of humor. He was a Command Master Chief in the U.S. Navy, and served several tours of duty including; Japan, Italy, UK, Korea, Vietnam, and Portugal and had served on the U.S. Submarine Force in the Atlantic. During his service he received multiple service commendation and achievement medals which included the Bronze Star, National Defense Service Medal, Combat V Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign, and service medals. After retirement, he traveled around the world, went to Germany where he worked as a civilian with military youth services, and then to Aberdeen Proving Ground.
Mr. Phillips is survived by his wife, Bronwen Margaret Phillips of Newquay, Cornwall, UK; son, Charles Andrew Phillips and fiancée, Kirsten, of England; daughters, Nicola Louise and Jennifer Lynn Phillips and her partner, Omar, both of England; brother John Lloyd Phillips and wife, Sandra, of NY; sister-in-law, Patricia Dale and husband, Danny, and their daughter, Josephine; grandchild, Erkki Carlos Ylitalo-Phillips and his mother, Pirjo, of England; and niece and nephew, Julie and Daniel Phillips and wife, Kristi, of NH; and great-nephew and nieces, Rowan, Gemma, and Joley.
