C. Glenvil Whitacre, age 89, of Joppa, MD died on December 6, 2016 at his home. He was born in Glengary, WV to Holmes Love and Lottie Catherine (DeHaven) Whitacre. He served in Civilian Service for 39 years, working as a research analyst for the Department of Defense. He received the Commander's Award for Civilian Service in 1990 for his early work creating one of the first computer models that could accurately predict the effects of an airborne chemical accident. He bought his first camera in the 1930s – a $9.95 Marvel – and was an avid photographer throughout his life. He loved to travel, had eclectic tastes in popular music, and was a master at fixing anything mechanical or electronic.
Mr. Whitacre is survived by his wife, Ethel McNeal Whitacre; daughters, Clarissa Whitacre of Linthicum Heights and Carla Whitacre Mayer of Wheaton, Illinois; and grandchildren, Luke and Kate Whitacre Mayer. He was predeceased by his son, Craig Glen Whitacre.
