Brian P. Bertrand

BRIAN P. BERTRAND, age 76, of Bel Air, died at his home on October 13, 2004. Born in Pawtucket, Rhode Island and raised in Holyoke, Massachusetts, he was the son of the late Romeo E. and Frances Catherine Brogan Bertrand. He was a graduate of the University of Massachusetts with a B.S. in Physics. He served in the U.S. Navy as an Ensign and flew PB4Y2’s (Privateers) in the Korean Conflict. He met his beloved wife, Evelyn, while in flight school in Corpus Christi, Texas. They were married in 1955 and moved to Bel Air in 1955. He began working at Aberdeen Proving Ground in 1954 as a physicist and retired in 1986. He was a licensed pilot and flight instructor and flew glider planes. He was an avid tennis player, fly fisherman, pianist and sailor, was an accomplished linguist, and loved to read. He was a member of the American Legion, Bel Air Post and St. Ignatius Catholic Church, Hickory and a former member of St. Margaret Catholic Church, Bel Air.

Mr. Bertrand is survived by his wife, Evelyn A. O’Docharty Bertrand; four daughters, Denise Bertrand and her husband, Jerry Steiner of St. Louis, Missouri, Linda Powell and her husband, Ken Powell of Bel Air, Michelle Webster and her husband, Dan Webster of Bel Air, and Suzanne Griffiths and her husband, Bob Griffiths of Craftsbury, Vermont; a brother, Art Bertrand of Longmeadow, Massachusetts; three sisters, Gen Mroczek of South Hadley, Massachusetts, Pat Humphrey of Chicopee, Massachusetts, and Cathy Elmasian of East Longmeadow, Massachusetts; and seven grandchildren, Brian Steiner and Ian Steiner, both of St. Louis, Missouri, and Rob Powell, Lilly Powell, Gabriel Webster, Olivia Webster and Teddy Webster, all of Bel Air.
