BRIAN LEE SEWELL, 33, of Bel Air, died at Andrews Air Force Base on August 9, 2003. Born in Needles, California, he was the son of Winfield E. and Margaret Ann Gilliam Sewell of Bel Air. A life long resident of Harford County, he was a graduate of Bel Air High School where he was a state champion gymnast and the University of Baltimore. He had been employed by the Baltimore City Police Department for eight years and had been with the National Guard for 14 years. He served in Desert Storm from 1990-1991. In 1986, he developed a project to go up with the space shuttle Challenger for zero gravity effect on the gypsy moth. He was a member of the NRA, was a strong environmentalist and enjoyed running and reading.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Sewell is survived by his wife of three years, Melissa Lee January Sewell; a son, Johnathan P. Sewell of Bel Air; a daughter, Caelan A. Sewell of Bel Air; a bother, Michael A. Sewell of Bel Air; two aunts, Carol Sewell of Fallston and Dorothy Kelly of Big Stone Gap, Virginia; his godmother, Susanne Welsh of Bel Air; a godson, Brent Hardesty of Rosedale; and a goddaughter, Emma Streb of Bel Air.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Sewell Memorial Fund (for Johnathan’s and Caelan’s education), HarCo Maryland Federal Credit Union, 30 Hickory Ave., Bel Air, MD 21014. Make checks payable to W.E. Sewell/Memorial Fund.
