Bradley Hopeton Munroe

As we look at the life of Bradley Hopeton Munroe, Sr., we begin a journey down a path that unveils tremendous achievements marked with monumental moments and remarkable skill and talent. Although it would be easy and seemingly fitting to begin with a focus on these great moments, if you knew Bradley; affectionately known as Daddy, Pops, Pepa, Pampa, Uncle Brad, Champ, Baby, Handsome Little Daddy, Grandpa, and my G, you would know what was most important was his family.


Born in Manhattan, NY, he was the son of Albert George and Jane Mersaida (King) Munroe. Bradley Hopeton Munroe, age 62, of Bel Air, MD passed away on March 4, 2018 at his home. Bradley Munroe is survived by his wife of 37 years, Julie Lavern Munroe; children, Bradley H. Munroe, Jr. (wife Adrianne), Marcus Terrell Munroe and Tamara Latrice Munroe; grandchildren, Trey Carter Munroe and Tristan Alexander Munroe; siblings, Eugenie Hawthorne (Fred Hawthorne), Agnes Agard (Lester Agard), Lucille Munroe (Edward Munroe) and Laurin Munroe; very beloved cousins, Godfrey Batiste and Judy Bingham; and many nieces and nephews that he loved like his own children Marlon, Maurice, Patricia (Dina), Brian, Donna, Keith, Lisa, Christine, Conrad, Vincent, Keisha, Charles, Janina, Ronnie, Sean, Justin, Lauren, Destinee, Calais, Trejza, Gianni and Kristopher. He was a Godly man, a loving father and grandfather, and a great husband.


In his youth, Bradley was incredibly smart and excelled in school. He was affectionately known as “The Judge” which was an early indication of his passion for social justice and equality. This same passion inspired him to pursue a career in law, seeking hope and justice for people of color. He graduated with a J.D. from Brooklyn Law School and continued his career in the legal field.

His passion for social justice was rivaled only by his passion for the game of basketball. He was an exceptional athlete and named captain of his high school basketball team, which he led to many victories. Bradley passed on the love of the game to his children, who all went on to play as well.

With the many academic accomplishments and athletic achievements, his faith and love for God remained of the utmost importance. Bradley was a faithful servant throughout his lifetime. Over the years, he served as a youth pastor, a leader in Intervarsity campus ministry, a church board member and as a coach and mentor to many.


As Bradley continued to serve the Lord, he fervently prayed for a partner in ministry. On June 20, 1981 he married Julie Lavern Leakey, his one true love and the answer to his prayers. They went on to have three beautiful children, and two handsome grandsons who were his pride and joy.


With all of the great achievements, monumental moments, skill and talent, what is remembered and will be missed are the jokes you would tell, the hilarious dance moves, the songs you introduced us to, the impressions and accents, the way you knew everyone’s Facebook status, the countless hours spent watching basketball, the great words of wisdom and encouragement, the heart to heart talks, the moments sharing God’s Word, your love for your family and most importantly, your faith and love for Christ. So Daddy, Pops, Pepa, Pampa, Uncle Brad, Champ, Baby, Handsome Little Daddy, Grandpa, and my G, you will always be remembered and never be forgotten.
