Bowen ''Bo'' Pattison Weisheit Sr.

Born in Baltimore on August 21, 1918, he passed away on April 29, 2009 of heart failure while shad fishing on the Susquehanna River. He attended the Blue Bird School in Baltimore County, Boys Latin School, Gilman School and graduated from City College in Baltimore City. He matriculated at St. John's College, Annapolis, where he not only learned the classics, but studied celestial, aerial and marine navigation under the legendary Annapolis professor of navigation, Commander P.V.H. Weems. He graduated from the University of Virginia; and, after briefly attending Harvard University Graduate School of Economics, when World War II broke out he joined the Glen L. Martin Company and became an aircraft delivery inspector. Subsequently, he joined the Marine Corps as a navigation instructor and eventually flew many hundreds of hours as a combat and transport navigator in the Pacific Theater. Following the war he became the ranking officer of the Marine Corps unit stationed at Fort McHenry in Baltimore, eventually retiring from the Corps with the rank of Major in 1962. He was the captain of 2 national championship Marine Corps rifle and pistol teams. In 1945 he married Edith Gertrude Burroughs, his wife of 63 years, after an extended courtship of 14 days. He is survived by his wife and 3 children, Parker W. Packard of Tacoma, WA; Bowen P. Weisheit Jr. of Baltimore, MD; and Jonathan W. Weisheit of Baltimore, and 7 grandchildren.

He graduated from University of Virginia School of Law in 1948 and, after engaging in various businesses related to real estate development, practiced real estate law in Bel Air until his retirement in 2006. He taught real estate appraisal courses at the Harford Community College for 14 years and authored 3 books devoted to his war experiences; Amelia Ehrhardts personal navigator, Frederick C. Noonan; and the loss of a childhood friend, fraternity brother and naval pilot, Ensign C. Markland Kelly, Jr., who was lost during the Battle of Midway (the latter work now housed in all U.S. Naval libraries). For many years he served as an officer and board member of the Ensign C. Markland Kelly, Jr. Memorial Foundation, the Board of Trustees of The St. Paul's School for Boys in Baltimore County, the John Carroll School in Bel Air, and the Vestry of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Baltimore City. He was a devoted husband and father, an avid fisherman, crabber, and reconteur of many stories from vivid recollections of a rich life.
