Bonnie Jo Goodman of Creswell, died in the early morning hours of January 6, 2010, after a short bout with pneumonia and complications from a myriad of immune disorders. Bonnie was 63.
Bonnie was born at Mercy Hospital and raised in Sparrows Point. Graduating Sparrows Point High School in 1964, she continued on to Frostburg State College, where she contracted Addison's disease and was forced to drop out, and began a lifelong battle with various immune-related diseases. Strong willed girl that she was, she began a career in banking that started as a teller at the Maryland National Bank at 33rd & Greenmount Avenues in Baltimore in 1965, and ended with a Vice Presidency at Bank of America where she was employed at the time of death. Along the way, she won Maryland National's "Service Star Award" in 1986, at that time the bank's highest award. She also earned the Bank of America's "Award of Excellence" in 2006. As a loan officer at Maryland National, many folks were helped along with their mortgages and business loans. In her position as a Team Leader with Bank of America, she earned the respect and admiration of her team members and superiors alike. Bonnie loved her time as a softball coach for Churchville Rec in the late 1970's through the 1980's. Bonnie was an avid gardener, accomplished knitter and chef par-excellence. Her family members were the lights of her life and she will be sorely missed by us and neighbors, friends, and those that knew her along the road of life.
Bonnie is survived by her parents, Guy R. and Virginia Dertinger Martin of Salisbury, MD; her husband of 42 years, John E. Goodman of Creswell, MD; her daughter, Natalie D. Goodman and good friend James Entwhistle and granddaughters Claudia M. Goodman and Emiley Jo Entwhistle of Berlin, MD; her daughter Rebecca G. Dorsey and husband, Greg Dorsey, of Baltimore, MD; her son, Layton E. Goodman and wife, Lori M. Goodman, and granddaughter Audrey J. Goodman and grandson, Layton G. Goodman of White Hall, MD; her brother, Richard G. Martin and wife, Carol H. Martin, and nieces Sara Martin and Kristen Martin of Sparrows Point, MD and her other daughter and granddaughter, Karen and Paige Putnam of Bel Air, MD.
A family farewell was given Bonnie, Thursday, January 7, 2010 prior to the cremation. A gathering of neighbors, family and friends will be held come springtime when Bonnie's gardens are beginning their renewal.
