Bob Lee Geddes

BOB LEE GEDDES, age 66, of Aberdeen, MD, died on March 24, 2008 at his home. Born in Reading, PA, he was the son of the late Charles Clifford and Edith Boyer Geddes. He began employment with Harford County Government on February 25, 1975. He was well known for his unique vocal style and sense of humor. "Bob Lee" emceed numerous events and award programs including, 25 years of "Miss Teen Harford County", the annual "Harford Awards", and many Harford County Department of Parks and Recreation Annual Dinners. He narrated promotional films and public service announcements and had been a radio announcer for WAMD 97 for many years. He served on several advisory boards, Harford Cable Network, Harford County Government Employment Board, and was one time president of the Aberdeen Board of Parks and Recreation and a 35 year board member of the same.

Bob won awards for his work and for his involvement in the local community. He was the recipient of the 7th Annual MD/ASLA Parks & Recreation Facility Award, Maryland Recreation and Parks Association for the Maryland Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects for the "most uniquely beautiful and functional park facility" at Mariner Point Park. Then in 1995, he won the National Recreation and Parks Association American Society of Landscape and Architects award for the Havre de Grace Promenade. He received a Proclamation from County Executive Eileen Rehrmann for his outstanding service to the county, a Harford County Children's Council Award, Governor's citation for outstanding service in 1995 and again in 2004. He was also recognized for his continued contribution to public service by Ameri*Corps National Civilian Community Corps, North East Region for his dedication to restoration efforts
following Tropical Storm Isabel. He was also a graduate of the 1991 Harford Leadership Academy and a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotillas 13-4 in Edgewood.

Mr. Geddes was selected to walk with President Bill Clinton and Vice President Al Gore during the April 1995 25th Anniversary Celebration of Earth Day held at the Havre de Grace Promenade. His most recent project was the pier and gazebo at Swan Harbor Farm in Havre de Grace, MD. He enjoyed working on his lawn, detailing his cars, and was a very avid boater.

Mr. Geddes is survived by his wife of 43 years, Bonnie L. McKinney Geddes of Aberdeen, MD; sister-in-law, Beverly M. Chick and her husband, John J., of Wyomissing, PA; one nephew, Dr. John A. Chick of Fairfax, VA; and three nieces, Jamie L. Johnson of Indianapolis, IN, Jodi L. Wright of Glendale, CA, and Corey Jackoby of Springboro, OH.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Havre de Grace Promenade at the Harford County Parks and Recreation, 702 North Tollgate Road, Bel Air, MD 21014. Make checks payable to the Havre de Grace Recreation Council.
