Bill O'Connor

January 11, 1921 — July 7, 2014

Bill O'Connor, age 93, of Bel Air, MD, passed away on July 7, 2014 at his home. Born in West Hoboken, NJ, he was the son of the late William Aloysius O'Connor Sr. and Frances LaBarbera O'Connor. He was predeceased by his sister, Francine. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and after service in the Pacific theater during World War II received his degree in Mechanical Engineering from Stevens Institute of Technology, Class of 1951. His working career ran the gamut from work in the aerospace industry, to work for the Federal government at Aberdeen Proving Ground.

A self-taught musician, he loved music - playing the clarinet, drums and the piano. Bill was a senior Olympian and had enjoyed playing competitive sports especially baseball, handball and most recently ping pong at the Bel Air Senior Center. He was quite a handyman around the house. He was always drawing and for several years his cartoons were published in the Aegis newspaper. He prided himself on doing the right thing and never held a grudge. When he met Miss "Wright", they got married and celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary in February.

In addition to his wife, Joyce Wright O'Connor, he is survived by his children, Matt, Bill and Nancy; and grandchildren, James, Stacey (and her husband, Chris) and Valerie (and her husband, Ben).

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Amedisys Hospice of the Greater Chesapeake, 7106 Ridge Road, Suite 100, Rosedale, MD 21237.
