Bill Cantler

December 30, 1929 — January 1, 2011

William "Bill" Cantler, age 81, of Bel Air, MD, died on January 1, 2011 at his home. Born in Peach Bottom, PA, he was the son of the late Raymond Walter and Janet Netta MacTaggart Cantler. A veteran of the U.S. Army, he was the recipient of the Korean Service Medal, Presidential Unit Citation, and WWII Victory Medal. A life member of the VFW, he was a Past Post Commander of Aberdeen Memorial VFW Post 10028 and Fallston Manor Post 749, Past 5th District Commander; and VFW National Aide-de-Camp. Before retiring, he had worked at Grumman Corporation in Glen Arm, MD where he was a Leadman. Before his health got bad, he loved hunting and fishing, and liked raising flowers, especially gladioli.

Mr. Cantler is survived by his wife of 45 years, Helen Orem Cantler of Bel Air, MD; daughters, Barbara Romagnano and husband, Dennis, of Towson, MD, Martha Sanzone and husband, Stephen, of Mansfield, TX, and Jane Baldwin and husband, David, of Greenville, SC; brothers, Ronald Cantler of Fargo, ND and Leslie Cantler of York, PA; sisters, Janet Sowards of Red Lion, PA, Lydia Vickers of Delta, PA, Isabelle Coley of Lawton, OK, and Margaret Johnson of Bel Air, MD; grandchildren, Brandon, Lauren, and Brianna Romagnano, Allison, Jacob, and William Sanzone, Melanie Richardson and husband, Jeremy, of SC, and Theodore Baldwin of NC; great-grandchildren, Gabe Solarzano, Abby Richardson, and MacKenzie Cole of SC, Lacie Faktor of FL; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by two newborn sons, brothers, Walter R., George C., Roger A., and Stanley Cantler; and sisters, Helen Lynch and Glenda Smith.

Pallbearers will be Dennis Romagnano, Stephen Sanzone, Brandon Romagnano, Thomas Piampi, Nicholas Piampi, and David Hooper. Honorary pallbearers will be his grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Seasons Hospice and Palliative Care, P.O. Box 2332, Elkton, MD 21922.
