Betty Sue Goertz

Betty Sue Blevins Goertz, age 64, departed this life in the early afternoon on September 15, 2013 surrounded by her loving family. Born in Elgin, TN to the late Nevada and Bethel Blevins, she grew up in the hills of Tennessee. She graduated from Robbins High School in 1967, where she was a star basketball player for the Robbins Hawks. After high school she joined the United States Coast Guard and was stationed in New London, CT; there she was to meet the love of her life, Philip. They were married in December 1969, and settled in Baltimore. She worked in the medical profession for over 40 years. She loved gardening and excelled as an accomplished cook, known to pull 20 slices from just one tomato. She adored her granddaughters; they were the joy of her life. She touched the lives of many people, especially the neighborhood gang, all of whom cherished her.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Nevada Sallie Frogge Blevins and her father, Bethel Lee Blevins of Elgin, TN. Survivors include her husband of 43 years, Philip Goertz of Abingdon; son, Philip Jr. (Jennifer) and two granddaughters, Julie and Casey of Abingdon; sister, Judy (Robert, Colonel (Dr.)(Ret.) USAF) Zalme of Lexington, KY; brothers, Darrell (Mandie) and Bethel (Teresa) of Elgin; and many nieces and nephews.
