Betty Smith

Betty Jane Smith, age 78, of Churchville, MD passed away on January 6, 2018 at her home. Born in Grayson County, VA, she was the daughter of DeWitt and Jincy (Sheets) Billings and was the wife of the late Herbert Wayne Smith. She came to Maryland when she was seventeen years old where she worked at Phil’s Restaurant on Main St. in Bel Air. This is where she met the love of her life, a taxi cab driver, Wayne. She was a member of Church of Christ in Aberdeen. She was a devoted mother and loved her grand and great-grandchildren, and her four-footed child Becky. Betty loved to look at her flowers and took pride in keeping her lawn green. She was the manager of the High’s stores in Bel Air and Churchville, MD and worked for High’s for 46 years.

Mrs. Smith is survived by son, Jimmy D. Smith and wife, Vicki, of Darlington; three sisters, Linda Dixon of Churchville, Sue Parker and Rita Scharmin of Bel Air; brother, Roger Sheets of Bel Air; grandchildren, Jimmy W. Smith (Heather), Brenda Smith, Amy Frink and Alicia Gainey (Josh); great-grandchildren, Ronnie Frink Jr, Brianna Frink, Sophia Smith, Harper Smith, Brantley Gainey and Wesley Gainey.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by son, Wayne (Steve) Smith and his wife Debbie; sister, Barbara Roupe, and grandson, Joshua Smith.

Pallbearers will be Jimmy W. Smith, Brian Dixon, Frank Curry, Ernie Smith, Sam Curry and Charlie Curry.
