Betty Irene Crothers, 85, of Forest Hill, MD passed away on December 13, 2015 at Hart Heritage Assisted Living in Forest Hill, MD. She is peacefully resting in the loving arms of our Lord.
Born and raised in Cumberland, MD she was the daughter of the late Berthold Bauman Browne and Helen Louise (Kane) Browne, and wife of the late John Lawson Crothers, Jr. She graduated from Fort Hill High School and Hagerstown Business School and worked at the University of Maryland College Park where she met her husband. They were married on January 14, 1956 and lived in Laurel, MD. She also worked for the Prince Georges County School System as a teacher's aide and secretary, where she retired with over 20 years of service. After retirement, they enjoyed splitting their time between Delaware (Fenwick Island and Bethany Beach) and Florida (Bonita Springs), then Charlestown in Catonsville, MD. She was devoted to her family and friends and doted on her three grandchildren. She was always ready to lend a hand to others—providing advice, guidance and friendship. She spent much time in and around her beloved Bethany Beach and loved spending hours upon hours sitting on the beach with her family and friends. She was always reading and learning and was an avid Bridge player, enjoying the friendships that came from her Bridge groups.
Mrs. Crothers is survived by her daughter, Holly A. Hidey and husband, Rev. Barry E. Hidey, of Bel Air, MD; grandchildren, Sarah Hidey (Denver, CO), Rachel Harbin and husband, Justin (Bel Air, MD), and Garon Hidey (Abingdon, MD); and great-grandchildren, Maxwell, Jackson and Abigail Harbin. She is also survived by her sisters, Mitzie Robinette of Cumberland, MD, Suzy Defibaugh of Bethany Beach, DE and Darlene Kunsman of Gaithersburg, MD. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her infant son, John Lawson Crothers, III and her sister, Shirley Worthington.
