Benjamin L. Miller, age 77, of Bel Air, MD passed away on August 3, 2018 at his home. Born in Centreville, MD he was the son of Joseph Perry Miller and Mary Catherine (Middleton) Ireland. He was predeceased by his wife of 52 years, Elizabeth Ann (Messick) Miller (Betsy), who was his high school sweetheart.
Mr. Miller retired as a Major with the Maryland Army National Guard in 1986 after 29 years of service. He then worked for Aberdeen Proving Ground for over 25 years where he held several positions including Security Manager for the U.S. Army Research Laboratory, Security Specialist for the Ballistics Research Laboratory and Branch Chief of the Administrative Support Branch of the Human Engineering Laboratory. He also provided computer desk support, database and programming support.
Mr. Miller was the marksmanship coordinator of the Rifle and Pistol Team with the Maryland National Guard where he received many trophies, rewards and recognitions for his marksman skills. He was a member of the NRA and the Bel Air American Legion. He was an avid golf player, enjoyed watching all sports, liked to shoot trap, and was a basketball referee for several years. He enjoyed teasing and joking around with his granddaughters and spending time with his 2 poodles.
Mr. Miller is survived by three daughters, Aprille Dawn Massarelli of Belcamp, Alisa Suzanne Ankerbrand and husband, Ken, of Bel Air, and Nancy Suellen Brewer, and husband, Chris, of Bel Air; siblings, Donald Miller and Judith Miles both of Centreville; granddaughters, Amanda Massarelli, Jessica Massarelli, Krystal Ankerbrand, and Victoria Massarelli; and 2 great grandchildren.
