BENJAMIN FREDERICK WOOD, JR., age 87, of Bel Air, MD, died on February 1, 2006 at Lorien Riverside following a long illness. Born in Crumpler, WV on September 8, 1918, he was the son of the late Benjamin Frederick, Sr., and Ida Hall Wood. He was a retiree from government service as an engineer at Aberdeen Proving Ground. He was a member of Gideons International.
He was a graduate of Greenbrier Military School, Lewisburg, WV and received a B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering from West Virginia University, Morgantown, WV, interrupted by his WW II service. He served in the Army Air Corps from April 10, 1941 to October 15, 1945, with three years in the Panama Canal Zone. Leaving active service as a sergeant, for a time he remained in the USAF Reserves, Ninth Air Force and was honorably discharged three years later.
Mr. Wood is survived by his wife, Anna Lee Wood of Bel Air, MD; one daughter, Mary Catherine Cox of Indianapolis. IN; one son, Benjamin Frederick Wood, III of Abingdon, MD; and one sister, Evelyn Bernard and her husband, Fred, of Princeton, WV.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by two brothers, James D. Wood and Robert L. Wood.
