Beatrice L. Ward, 98, of Abingdon, Maryland, passed away peacefully at her beloved home, “Findowrey” on July 28, 2024. Born in Baltimore, Maryland, Beatrice was the daughter of the late William and Ethel (Pearson) Lauterbach. She was the devoted wife of the late R. Walter Ward.

A proud graduate of Bel Air High School, Betty furthered her education at Drew University, where she earned her bachelor's degree. She began her career as an English teacher, inspiring countless students with her passion for literature and learning. After her teaching career, Betty dedicated herself to being a full-time homemaker, wife, and mother, roles in which she excelled with grace and love.

Betty was also deeply involved in her community as a volunteer, offering her time, treasure and talents to various local organizations and causes, including the Ward Family YMCA, which held a special place in her heart. An avid tennis and bridge player for many years, she also loved to dance, when in her 80’s, she twice participated as a celebrity dancer in the Harford “Dancing for the Arts” gala, winning both the “Top Fundraiser” and “Peoples Choice” awards. In 2015, Betty was named a Harford Living Treasure, joining her late husband in receiving that designation. She will be remembered for her kindness, generosity, and unwavering commitment to her family, church, and community.

She leaves behind a legacy of love and dedication to her family and friends, who will cherish her memory. 

Beatrice is survived by her son, Robert C. (Barbara) Ward of Havre de Grace, MD; daughter, Jennifer W. (George) Reynolds of Phoenix, MD; grandchildren, Jennifer L. (Andrew) Larkin of Severna Park, MD, Laura A. (Carter) Hilliard of Charlottesville, VA, R. Andrew (Keila) Ward of Miami, FL; great grandson, Andy Larkin; great-granddaughters, Beatrice Hilliard, and Annie Hilliard.

In addition to her husband and parents, Beatrice was preceded in death by brother, William V. Lauterbach, Jr., and sisters, Ethel O. Sellman, and Virginia S. Tyson.

A memorial service will be held at Fallston United Methodist Church on Friday, August 9th at 4pm, with visitation commencing at 3pm. Interment will be private.
