BASIL W. WILLS, age 73, of Edgewood, died in Upper Chesapeake Medical Center on August 25, 2005. Born in Ellison Ridge, West Virginia, he was the son of the late Joseph Basil and Lena Joyce Lilly Wills. He graduated from Hinton High School in 1951. He served his country in the U.S. Air Force for 4 years, part of that time during the Korean Conflict. He served in the National Guard from June 1956 to July 1985, attaining the rank of Chief Master Sergeant. He worked for the Department of Defense from July 1957 to December 1982 as a firefighter, most of that time as the base fire chief. He was a life time member of the Abingdon Fire Company and a member of the American Legion Post #17. He was an avid hunter.
Mr. Wills is survived by his wife of 52 years, Goldie M. Wooten Wills; one son, Gregory B. Wills of Hughesville, Maryland; one daughter, Sandra L. Stanbery of Edgewood; one brother, Lewis W. Wills of Jumping Branch, West Virginia; four sisters, Dicie M. Lewis of Dundalk, Charlotte F. Harvey of LaPorte. Louisiana, Shirley J. Dobbs of Baltimore, and Pauline Davis of Ashboro, North Carolina.
Pallbearers were George Ashe, Paul Whitaker, Charles Lewis, Rick Harvey, Lewis Wills, Jr., Harold Bragg, and Tom Sexton.
