Barry Shortt, 65, of Grottoes, Virginia, passed away on February 17, 2025, in Harrisonburg, Virginia.
Born in Laporte, Indiana, Barry was the son of Shirley (Huenecke) and the late Thomas Shortt. He was the beloved husband of Suzanna (Price) Shortt.
A dedicated and lifelong learner, Barry was a proud member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) for 40 years. He earned two Master’s degrees from Liberty University and was diligently working on his dissertation, just shy of completing his Doctorate.
Barry’s faith was a guiding force in his life. He was an active member of Union Chapel United Methodist Church in Joppa, where he served as a youth leader, inspiring and mentoring many. One of his greatest dreams was to one day establish his own church.
In addition to his academic and spiritual pursuits, Barry had a love for sports and enjoyed playing softball for many years.
In addition to his wife and mother, Barry is survived by his daughter, Meghan Shortt, and her significant other Thomas Lilley; son, Patrick T. Shortt and his wife Molly; grandson, Benjamin T. Shortt; brothers, Michael Shortt and his wife Christine, Ricky Shortt, and his wife Shireen; his brother-in-laws Michael Price (Annette) and Christopher Price (Sherry); 9 nieces and nephews and many great nieces and nephews.
