Barbara L. Kellagher

Barbara L. Kellagher, age 82, of Edgewood, MD, died on May 23, 2011 at Upper Chesapeake Medical Center in Bel Air, MD. Born in Wheeling, WV, she was the daughter of the late George Anthony and Dorothy Zitsmann Stolze. A resident of Edgewood for 46 years, she grew up in Glen Burnie and graduated from Catholic High School in Baltimore where she excelled on the basketball team. She graduated from Mercy Hospital Training Program in 1946 and earned her Bachelor's Degree in Nursing from Saint Agnes College in 1959. She worked at Mercy Hospital in the operating room and as a nursing instructor, was the school nurse for 10 years at Oakington and Deerfield Elementary Schools, and later worked at Fallston General Hospital. She also served in the Air Force as a Flight Nurse, earning the rank of 1st Lieutenant. For over 30 years she attended Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Edgewood and was active as a volunteer nurse in her community. She enjoyed bowling, reading, and helping her neighbors.

Mrs. Kellagher is survived by her husband of 51 years, Robert Walter Kellagher of Edgewood, MD; sons, Brian Kellagher and wife, Sherrie, of Havre de Grace, MD and Dennis R. Kellagher and wife, Kim, of Bel Air, MD; daughter, Valerie A. Elliott and husband, Scott, of Bel Air, MD; sister, Doris Collier of Annapolis, MD; and eight grandchildren.
