Barbara Jean Close

Barbara Jean Close, age 74, of Abingdon, passed away on May 2nd, 2015 from complications of lung cancer.

She was born on May 29, 1940 in Springfield, Massachussetts to the late Walter Earnest and Marion Perticey Lawery. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her two sisters, Shirley Erickson and Betty Kendrick.

She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 57 years, David (Smokey) Close Sr., her son David Close Jr. and his wife Sue Close of Westminster, MD, her daughter Karen Boyce and her husband GB Boyce of Joppa, MD.

She is also survived by the highlights of her life, her grandchildren. Josh Brewer of Edgewood, MD, Katie Close Fisher and her husband John of Westminster, MD, Kristyn Close Commerford and her husband John of Manhattan, KS, Daniel Hogan of Joppa, MD, and Tiarra Boyce of Joppa, MD. She had two great grandchildren, Eliza and Henry Fisher of Westminster, MD.

Barb moved to Maryland in 1957. She lived in Joppa for 40 years before moving to the house and neighborhood she had always wanted in the Grand Oaks community. She enjoyed being on the landscape committee, going to luncheons, playing bunco, and going to holiday parties with the ladies from the neighborhood. She also enjoyed her time researching her family's ancestory. Barbara left a lasting and loving impression on everyone she met. She truly enjoyed life and her family.
