AUDREY E. BAILEY, age 86, of Abingdon, died at her home on January 9, 2005. Born in Baltimore, she was the daughter of the late Edgar and Caroline Thome Henkelman and the wife of the late Vinton E. Bailey.
As a child, she grew up in Hamilton and later attended the all girls Eastern High School. She worked at Hecht’s in Baltimore, trained at Enoch Pratt Library in the children’s room, was a member the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority in Bel Air, volunteered for numerous organizations and for the Old Post Elementary School Library.
She was a life long member of St. Francis de Sales Roman Catholic Church in Abingdon. She supported organizations for conservation, animal rights and the Chesapeake Bay.
She traveled with her late husband, Vinton Bailey, to every state in the union by motor home when possible and explored each river of the Chesapeake in their houseboat.
She was a devoted mother and wife, and loved to take in lost animals and children, and made them her own.
Mrs. Bailey is survived by a son, Merle W. Bailey of Madison, Wisconsin; two daughters, Lynne Bailey Hamell of Baltimore and Bronwen M. Crue of Belcamp; and four grandchildren, Christopher Crue of Belcamp, David Crue of Belcamp, Neill Bailey of Madison, Wisconsin, and Samantha L. Bailey of Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Pallbearers will be: Christopher C. Crue, David P. Crue, Neill Bailey.
