Arthur "Art" K. Stuempfle, age 84, of Edgewood, Maryland, passed away on March 29, 2024, at Senator Bob Hooper House in Forest Hill, Maryland, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Williamsport, PA, Art was the cherished son of the late Arthur and Jeanette (Jacobs) Stuempfle and a devoted husband to Linda (Campbell) Stuempfle. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army, serving his country with honor.
Art's academic achievements were notable, having earned a master's degree in physics from John Hopkins University. His passion for learning and dedication to his field were evident throughout his career.
Art and his beloved wife, Linda, embarked on countless adventures around the globe, exploring the rich cultures of South America, Asia, Europe, and even venturing to the Arctic Circle. They shared a love for ballroom dancing, with Linda always by his side as his favorite dance partner. Their 63-year marriage was a testament to their enduring love, which began when they first met at Drexel University. Art was active in the community as well, serving Lord of Life Lutheran Church in many capacities, writing community newsletters and as a member of numerous organizations including the American Legion and Friends of the Library.
As a commissioned officer, a civilian employee and a contractor, Art spent over 50 years serving the needs of the US Army Chemical Corps. He received numerous commendations and service awards including multiple Meritorious Civilian Service awards, culminating with the Ancient Order of the Dragon symbolizing a career of service to the Chemical Corps.
In addition to his wife, Art is survived by his devoted sons, Karl (Amy) Stuempfle and Jeff (Rita) Stuempfle; adoring granddaughters, Maggie (Chris) Kitner, Katie Stuempfle, Laurel Stuempfle, and Tierney Stuempfle; cherished great-grandson, Joe Kitner; and loving brother, David (Georgine) Stuempfle. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and friends who will deeply miss his presence and warm spirit.
