Arnold Charles Eck Sr., age 81, of Forest Hill, MD, died on March 25, 2009 at Upper Chesapeake Medical Center in Bel Air, MD. Born in Hyde, MD, he was the son of the late Phillip Augustus and Pearl Elizabeth Shanklin Eck. He had worked for the U.S. Post Office as a Rural Route Carrier where he retired after 43 years. Growing up on a farm, he loved telling stories of how he plowed with mules before his Dad purchased the last John Deere Tractor on the lot in 1941, which he later was reunited with and restored. He worked for Koppers as a machinist from the 1950's to the 1960's and was owner/operator of Eck & Co. Excavating Service from the late 1960's to the 1970's. He was a member of Mt. Ararat Lodge #44, past member of Kingsville Volunteer Fire Company, and past Commodore of Trojan Harbor Yacht Club in the 1960's and 1970's. He enjoyed watching bull riding and restoring antique tractors and farm equipment.
Mr. Eck is survived by his wife, M. Louise Eck of Forest Hill, MD; son, Arnold Charles Eck Jr. of Essex, MD, daughter, Janice Anne Frederick, and husband James Albert Frederick III, of Parkville, MD; step-sons, Stephen D. Murphy of Forest Hill, MD and Darrell Prewitt of North Carolina; step-daughters, Gail Mundis of Havre de Grace, MD, Pat Sheremetta of North Carolina and Ellen Hudler, and husband John, of Darlington, MD; sisters, Hilda Unkert of Churchville, MD and Doris "Dottie" Lewis of Joppa, MD; and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Hazel Spammer.
