Arne Armas Johnson, age 57, of Bel Air, MD passed away on December 21, 2017. Born in Foster, RI, he is the son of Arne Armas Johnson and the late Sylvia (Corey) Johnson. In his youth he was an Eagle Scout, lifeguard and waterfront instructor at BSA Camp Yawgoog. He worked as a Chemical Engineer for the Department of the Army. He was a volunteer with Boy Scout Troop 808, a member of the Ponaganset High School Athletic Hall of Fame, a member of the Edgewood Bow Club,Theta Chi Fraternity, Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, Beta Gamma Sigma Honor Society, American Institute of Chemical Engineers, and Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers. After his retirement, he enjoyed being a bird catcher at Meridian Bird Removal, earning the nickname Arne “Catbird” Johnson after success catching a wily species of bird. A hunter and avid outdoorsman is who he was.
Mr. Johnson was a graduate of Ponaganset High School. He was awarded a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Rhode Island and a Master’s degree in Project Management from the Naval Postgraduate School.
Mr. Johnson is survived and will be greatly missed by his wife of 35 years, Carol Clancy Johnson; son, Brian R. Johnson; daughter, Ellen C. Johnson; grandson, Jasper Green, all of Bel Air. Ellen’s fiancé, Jonathan Wallender of Baltimore; two brothers, Eric Johnson, Timothy Johnson and sister, Valerie Johnson, all of Foster, RI.
Those who knew him will remember a thoughtful, incisive, kind, and generous man. He treasured time with his grandson: taking him fishing, climbing and on road trips to New England.
