Arlene Burcham Schafer

Arlene Burcham Schafer, age 85, of Abingdon, MD passed away on January 31, 2016 at Christiana Medical Center in Newark, DE. Born in Fawn Grove, PA, she was the daughter of the late Pervis Blake Burcham and Helen Norine (Osborne) Burcham and wife of the late Harold William Schafer. She retired from APG where she had worked as an Executive Secretary. She was an incredible grandmother and great-grandmother and was known as the neighborhood "Mom Mom" who always had a freezer full of Freezie Pops for everyone. She loved to cook and was known for her cornbread. A woman of strong faith, she loved her family. Her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her most treasured possessions because they were an extension of her. The love she felt for them was indescribable and the joy and happiness they brought her was endless.

Mrs. Schafer is survived by her daughters, Cynthia L. Schafer Cole and husband, Tim, of Oceanside, CA and Diane P. Smith and husband, James G. Smith Jr., of Churchville; brother, Pervis C. Burcham Jr. of Bel Air; sisters, Anna Louise Burcham Walls of Huntsville, AL and Ruth Adelene Burcham Schillinger of Port Orange, FL; grandchildren, Melissa Wetters, Ryan Smith, Josh Smith and Kayleigh Cole; and great-grandchildren, Jimmy Smith, Jacob Smith, Madelyn Wetters and Maci Wetters.
