ANTHONY WILLIAM "BILL" PIEPER- Suddenly, on June 17, 2004, Anthony William "Bill" Pieper of Aberdeen, MD, died at Harford Memorial Hospital, Havre de Grace. He was 56. He was formally an Electronics Engineer with the Survivability Directorate, U.S. Army Research, Development and Engineering Command (RDECOM), Aberdeen Proving Ground, MD. Over a distinguished career of more than 30 years of superior performance, he served in several key program capacities within the Edgewood Chemical Biological Center and the Office of the Joint Program Manager for Nuclear, Biological and Chemical Contamination Avoidance. Most notably, he served as a developmental Engineer for the M21 Remote Sensing Chemical Agent Alarm program and Subject Matter Expert for Contractor Logistics Support for three Biological Integrated Detection Systems. He was a Level III Certified Acquisition Professional in the specialty of Systems Planning, Research, Development and Engineering and a recent employee at the U.S. Army Test and Evaluation Command, Army Evaluation Center, Aberdeen Proving Ground, MD.

Bill also served in Korea and in Saudi Arabia during the entire duration of the Desert Storm war. At the end of that war, he designed and supervised the construction of "the world's largest car wash" a giant ditch in the sand, used to decontaminate Army vehicles just before loading them on ships for return to the States. He retired as a Lieutenant Colonel in the U.S. Army Reserves. He had a BS in Electronics Engineering and MS in Business Administration.

He is survived by his wife Nannette L. Miller-Pieper of Aberdeen, MD; his son Anthony William "Tony" Pieper of Japan one stepson Dennis Miller of Aberdeen, his parents Anthony W. and Betty Louise Pieper of St. Petersburg, FL; brother Jeffrey R. Pieper, his wife Andrea and their son Charlie of Tenafly, NJ. He is also survived by his aunt Ruth Pieper of Stamford, CT; his uncle, Robert L. Brown and his wife Martha of Edison, NJ; and 3 step-grandchildren, Stephanie Miller, James Miller, and Joel D. Miller of Aberdeen, MD.
