Annie M. Hughes

ANNIE M. HUGHES, age 68, of Havre de Grace, MD, died on November 11, 2007 at her home. Born in Grassy Creek, NC, she was the daughter of the late Guy Homer and Ina June Johnson West and wife of the late James Elder Hughes. She worked 23 years at Citizens Nursing Home as a baker where she was known as “the cookie lady”, and prior to that, she worked in food service for 15 years for the Harford County Board of Education. She liked to laugh and had a great sense of humor. She enjoyed the holidays, shopping, and helping people. Strong willed, she put everyone before herself.

Mrs. Hughes is survived by a son, Michael A. Hughes and his partner, Robert C. Johnson, of Alexandria, VA; a daughter, Angela H. Wheeler and her husband, Joseph A. Wheeler Jr., of Aberdeen, MD; a brother, Guy H. West Jr. of Plymouth, NE; two sisters, Della Remines of Pittsville, MD and Illene Bowman of Perryville, MD; and two grandchildren, Nicole Blair Wheeler and her fiancé, Jonathan Tennesen, of Aberdeen, MD and Joseph A. Wheeler III of Aberdeen, MD; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a sister, Lois West Blackburn and two brothers, Lacy West and Darryl West.
