ANNE MARIE “DIXIE” ELLIS, age 72, of Bel Air, MD, died on January, 4, 2008 at Upper Chesapeake Medical Center in Bel Air after a valiant struggle against cancer. Born in Bristol, PA, she was the daughter of the late Daniel Hugh and Bridget Sweeney Dugan.
She began her career at U.S. Steel in Fairless Hills, PA, before marrying and starting a family with three children. Then, as a single parent living in Levittown, PA, she worked in the court system and freight shipping industry.
She was an active member of the Queen of the Universe Catholic Church of Levittown for 30 years. A Harford County resident for seven years, she was involved in the St. Margaret Catholic Church where she became a Eucharistic minister. Her faith and family formed the center of her life. She was an avid reader, and loved listening to music, especially big band jazz and Frank Sinatra. She will be remembered for her sense of fun, compassion for all, and “that zucchini and tomato dish”.
Mrs. Ellis is survived by a son, Mark Ellis and his wife, Sarah, of Nazareth, PA; a daughter Kathleen Ellis of Bel Air, MD; a son-in-law, Kenneth Kinzler and his wife, Cheryl; two sisters, Rita Sorrentino of Las Vegas, NV and Theresa Bross and her husband, Milton, of Groveville, NJ; and four grandchildren: Kathryn and William Kinzler of Bel Air, MD; and Cheyenne and Kaelan Ellis of Nazareth, PA. She was predeceased by a daughter, Jacquelyn Kinzler.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Anne's name may be made payable to the St. Margaret School, 205 Hickory Avenue, Bel Air, MD 21014. Please note on the check that it is for the “Jacquelyn Kinzler Memorial Fund”.
