Anne Elizabeth Mullis was born in Omaha, Nebraska on a very clear Wednesday evening, at 11 PM on May 5th, 1926 and passed away after 90 years of bliss at her daughter (Candy's) home on an unseasonably warm Thursday evening of November 17th, 2016. Anne, affectionately known as GG (Great Grandma) in her later years, retired from Montgomery County School system after serving decades as a Reading Specialist, helping shape the lives of many youngsters in the Beltway area.
GG enjoyed traveling with her family, from local camping excursions to major international trips to England, Australia, New Zealand, China, Russia, Philippines, and many other unique and interesting destinations. She thoroughly reveled in raising organic crops on the Mullis Farm in Damascus, MD and making sure the kids and grandkids understood the value of a hard-earned day's work. GG's longest term addiction was coupon clipping and bargain hunting, and loved to shop with her daughter and granddaughters.
GG is an avid reader and studied politics in the Washington Post and many other periodicals, and is a staunch democrat, which made for great debates within the Mullis home.
She is survived by her daughter, Carol "Candy" Carr-Smith, a son, David Fred Nails, five grandchildren (Crystal, Christopher, Cherice, Julianna, and Joseph) and 10 great grandchildren (Kaiya, Aubrielle, Bryson, Christian, Cosette, Summer, Isabella, Devon, Delyza, and Chase).
Visitation will be held at McComas Funeral Home, Abingdon, MD on Saturday, November 26, 2016 from 1-3 pm. Services will follow at 3 pm. A reception will then follow at Candy's home.
In lieu of flowers, a contribution can be made to Amedisys Hospice of Greater Chesapeake, 7106 Ridge Road, Suite 100, Rosedale, MD 21237.
