Anna Marie Joan Scharfe, affectionately known as "Rea”, of Bel Air, Maryland, passed away peacefully on December 18, 2024, at Upper Chesapeake Medical Center in Bel Air, Maryland. She was 82 years old.
Born in Allegheny, Pennsylvania, Rea was the cherished daughter of the late Obediah and Victoria (Principe) Stevens. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Elwood “Jim” Scharfe. Rea’s early years were spent in the vibrant Little Italy neighborhood of Baltimore, where she was proud of her deep Italian heritage, which shaped her character and filled her life with love and warmth.
A woman of many interests and talents, Rea was known for her artistic spirit. She had a true passion for drawing and painting, always finding joy in expressing herself through art. Music and dance were also among her greatest loves, and she found immense happiness in singing and dancing, especially to the timeless tunes of Elvis Presley.
Rea’s playful nature and lively personality made her a beloved figure among those who knew her. She was a little bit of a flirt — and rightfully so, as her timeless beauty never went unnoticed. Compliments about her beautiful green eyes, style, or noticing the shoes she chose from her extensive collection, always brightened her day. Rea was also known for her love of life’s simple pleasures, including enjoying a glass of iced tea with lemon while basking in the sun. She also had an extensive doll collection which she proudly displayed including one that she has had her entire life.
A lifelong fitness enthusiast, Rea’s passion for health and wellness stayed strong throughout her life. She was dedicated to staying active, working with a personal trainer and running well into her 70s, a testament to her determination and vitality.
Rea’s greatest joy, however, was her family. She was an extraordinary grandmother and took great pride in babysitting her beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren, watching them grow and thrive. Her love for them knew no bounds, and her presence in their lives will be forever cherished.
Rea was a woman who truly lived life to the fullest. Her kind heart, joyful spirit, and zest for life touched all who had the privilege of knowing her. She will be deeply missed but never forgotten, leaving behind a legacy of love, beauty, and passion for life.
Rea is survived by her daughters, Judith "Judi" Mistretta and her partner Patty; Jennifer Hine and her husband Nate; Jill Schadty and her husband Will; grandchildren, Brittany Dietsch and her husband Travis; Joey Mistretta and his fiancée Nikki; John Huth IV, Gabriella Huth and her fiancé Tom; Sammi Schadty, Jack Schadty; great grandchildren, Camryn, Carter, Victoria, Ryder, Annarose, and Joseph.
In addition to her husband and parents, Rea was preceded in death by brother, Kenneth Stevens.
