Anna Cecelia Jenkins Kahoe of Bel Air, MD passed away on January 16, 2008 at age 83 after a courageous battle with congestive heart failure. Born on November 7th, 1924, an eighth generation Jenkins, Anna was the fifth of six children of Anna Augusta Webster Jenkins (1896-1928) and Ignatius Walter Jenkins Sr. (1892-1976) of Pylesville, MD. Mrs. Kahoe is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Stephen Michael Kahoe, Jr. (1921-1989), her son Patrick Charles Kahoe (1958-1984), her brothers, Ignatius Walter Jenkins, Jr., Charles Edwin Jenkins and George Ambrose Jenkins, and her sister Mary Elizabeth (Sissy) Neukam.
Born and raised in Harford County, Anna attended a one room school house, Fairview Elementary School, in Pylesville, MD. She graduated from Highland High School in Street in 1941 and attended Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Baltimore from 1942 – 1944.
In 1944, she met Steve and decided to go by the name, Ann. In 1945, they married and moved to College Park where they lived for 5 years. During that time, Steve worked and graduated from the University of MD and together they had their first 5 children.
In 1951, they moved to a farm in Street, MD where they lived until 1982. These many years on the farm were filled with 11 more children and all that goes w/farm life.
Words cannot do justice in describing this woman’s career accomplishments…raising 8 sons and 8 daughters. She was a counselor, a nurse, a playmate, a housekeeper, a cook, a teacher, a wedding planner, and the consummate manager. She loved the ocean breeze, the birds and her flower gardens. She loved to paint, read and write poetry. She loved to dance, play cards and entertain in her home. She loved to laugh and blessed many with her sense of humor.
In 1989, Anna learned to face life as a widow. She traveled, made new friends and kept old ones. But most of all, she served as an incredible example of a faith filled woman who lived her life to the fullest and left in her wake a glorious legacy. One of her favorite quotes was, “The measure of our lives is not how much we’ve lived but how much we’ve left behind.”
Mrs. Kahoe is survived by her sister Dora Louise Jenkins Wenderoth of Westminster, MD and her remaining fifteen children and their families (42 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren): Mary Ann Campbell, Bel Air, MD and her son, Phillip Thomas Campbell (daughter, Natalia Campbell) of CA; Stephen Michael Kahoe, III, wife Mary, and children Mary Ann Catto (husband Sean and daughter, Sydney Catto), Emily Kahoe and Bethany Kahoe, all of NJ; John Walter Kahoe, Hedgesville, WV, wife Donna, and children Laura Reep (husband Jason) and Jill Zimmerman (husband Brandon and children Sydney & Tyler Zimmerman) all of White Marsh; Jane Dare Mullins, husband Gary, and children Gary Mullins, Jr. (wife Melanie and children Nick and Mandy Mullins, and Robert and Amanda Moffet), all of Edgewood, MD and Monica Mullins of FL; Elizabeth Louise Martinez, Fort Myers, FL, husband Joe, and children Julie Wilson (husband Mark and children Blake Wilson, Malachi Jimenez, and Reyna Wilson), Richie Rode (wife Stephanie and son Justin Rode), and Brian Rode, all of FL; Joseph Jenkins Kahoe, Colorado Springs, CO, wife Debbie, and children Michelle Carrigan (husband Kevin and children Tyler, Brandon, Rachel and Samantha Carrigan), all of CO, Joey Kahoe (wife Christine and children Nathan and Camden Kahoe), all of CO and Jeremy Kahoe (wife Cassidy), of SC; Thomas Edward Kahoe, Port Deposit, MD, wife Robin, and children Ed, Tim, Nick and Andy Kahoe, all of Port Deposit, MD; James Francis Kahoe, Millsboro, DE, wife BJ, and children Christopher McGary (wife Jennifer) of HI, Cory McGary and Justin Kahoe, both of DE; Katherine Kahoe Cooper, husband Jim, and children Ben, Kristianna, Melanie, and Adam Cooper, all of Bel Air, MD; Helen Kahoe Kurtz, husband Jim, and children David and Caroline Kurtz all of Bel Air, MD; Daniel Paul Kahoe, wife Linda, and children Danny and Michael Kahoe, all of Georgetown, DE; Rita Kahoe Charney, husband Don, and children Meghan, McKayla and Allie Charney, all of Phoenix, MD; Larry Ignatius Kahoe, Street, MD, wife Jennifer, and children Jamie Kahoe and Daniel Kahoe (wife Susan) all of Bel Air, MD; Bonnie Kahoe O'Shaughnessy, husband Mike, and children Stephen, Micah, Jessie and Alex O’Shaughnessy, all of Jarrettsville, MD; Joan Kahoe Haggerty, husband Terry and children Kaley, Lauren, Josh and Joey Haggerty, all of Bel Air, MD.
