Anna Mae Godfrey, age 84, of Abingdon, Maryland, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on July 23, 2024, at Upper Chesapeake Medical Center in Bel Air, Maryland. Born in Woodbridge, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Woodrow and Viola (Posey) Stanley and the beloved wife of the late Rev. Thomas Godfrey, Sr. Anna and Thomas shared 67 years of marriage, filled with love and cherished memories.
Anna worked for a period at Montgomery Ward in Bel Air, Maryland, until they went out of business. Later on the same premises, she played a pivotal role in opening the Sears where she dedicated many years of service until her retirement. Known for her kindness and beauty, Anna enjoyed the simple pleasures in life. She had a special fondness for Box Hill's rice pudding and spent her free time shopping around town.
Anna's smile, warm hugs, and caring nature were known to all who met her; she had an embrace that conveyed deep love and affection. She will be deeply missed by family and friends. Above all, Anna cherished her family and treasured every moment spent with them.
Anna is survived by her son, Thomas Godfrey, Jr. She is also survived by her daughters and their spouses whom she loved as sons, Dianna (Mark) Watts, Cynthia (Gary) Mitchell, Karen (Tony) Lysakovski, Wendy (Jeff) Snyder, and Shelly (Carl) Durst. In addition, Anna will be remembered by her cherished 27 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren, 1 great-great granddaughter, and her beloved Yorkie, Tori.
In addition to her husband and parents, Anna was preceded in death by, brother, Woodrow Wilson Stanley Jr., and son-in-law, James S. Wilson Jr.
