Ann Veronica Carven (Sheehan) of Bel Air passed away on May 26, 2017. Ann was born May 30, 1924 in Boston, Massachusetts the sixth child of Frank P. and Frances G. Sheehan's (Walsh) eight children.
She graduated from Boston's Girls' High School in 1941. She graduated from the Felt and Tarrant Business School in 1942 and went to work for the US Department of the Navy at the Hingham Shipyard in Massachusetts during World War II as a receptionist. Her childhood and teen year summers were spent with her family at their cottage (Rosecrown) in Scituate, Massachusetts.
After the war she was employed with the Salada Tea Corporation.
She was predeceased by her husband Arthur F. Carven Jr. in 1980, by her only daughter Paula, and grandson Jay on July 17, 1996 in the TWA 800 air disaster and her eldest son Arthur F. Carven III (Frank) on July 27, 2006.
She was a longtime parishioner of St. Ignatius Church attending Mass there until the final years of her life. She usually attended daily the 6:30 am Mass and/or the 8:30 Mass and Mass at St. Margaret's Church in Bel Air. During her life, she contributed liberally to the churches she attended and was pleased that she was able to donate the Mother Ann Seton and St. Ignatius Loyola statues in the new St. Ignatius church.
Ann and her husband Arthur were married on October 28, 1950, shortly after Arthur's graduation from Boston College in June 1950. Arthur was discharged from the United States Navy in 1947 and received his education under the G. I. Bill. After her marriage, Ann became a homemaker in Boston living across the street from her mother in the Savin Hill section Dorchester, Massachusetts where three of her five children were born: Frank in 1952, Paula in 1954 and Tom in 1955. Her husband Arthur was a General Motors executive and was transferred to Michigan where the family resided from 1957-63 and where her fourth child Jay was born. In 1963 her husband was transferred to Wilmington, Delaware where her son Sean was born. Another transfer in 1969 brought the family to Bel Air, Maryland where she resided for the rest of her life. She was a 47-year member of the Maryland Golf and Country Club.
Ann loved her children very much and sometimes used the expression that she "would shovel ** it against the tide for her children." She took care of her grandchildren by providing day care and babysitting. She frequently traveled to Hawaii and California to assist her daughter Paula with daycare. In later years she helped her son Jay and Sean with their children. Ann was a truly devoted parent, concerned with the wellbeing of her children all the days of her life.
