Ann Davis

February 7, 1929 — March 20, 2008

ANN DAVIS, age 79, of Abingdon, MD, died on March 20, 2008 at her home, surrounded by her family. Born in Port Deposit, MD, she was the daughter of the late Stanley Eugene and Catherine Brinkman Phillips. She graduated from Havre De Grace High School in 1945. Ann retired in 1989 as a Civilian Personnel Specialist after 42 years of service to the US Army Aberdeen Proving Ground. She received numerous awards of exceptional service. Mrs. Davis began her career in Med Research at APG and eventually moved into the Office of the Commanding General, finishing out her career in the Civilian Personnel Office. She had also worked for McComas Funeral Home, P.A. and was a member of the Abingdon Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary, as well as the Order of the Eastern Star. Ann was a member of Cokesbury United Methodist Church, where she and Jim were married in 1948. Mrs. Davis was well known in the community, particularly as a member of the Edgewood High Boosters Club in the 1970's. She was an avid Edgewood Rams fan, especially when her kids were on the field, court, track, diamond, bandstand, or gymnastics equipment. An athlete and coach herself, she was known as a "slugger with a rifle arm" in softball, and was an accomplished skier. Ann, Jim, the five girls, and the dogs were regulars on the Bush River and Chesapeake Bay in the 60's and 70's, cruising on their boat, aptly named the "Harem".

Ann was a beloved daughter, mother, wife, sister, and aunt. She doted on her grandchildren, and loved nothing more than a house full of family and friends. The Davis' home was known as the gathering place for all of the neighborhood children, which made for a joyful, albeit noisy, house. It was common for Ann to be asked, "Will you be my mother too?" She loved to dance; she and Jimmy were well known in this regard, especially for their jitterbugging. Playing Glenn Miller's "In the Mood" will always bring back memories of Ann and Jim cutting a rug. She also loved to travel.

Mrs. Davis is survived by her husband of 59 years, James W. Davis, of Abingdon, MD; five daughters, Judy A. Mahmoodi of Gaithersburg, MD, Cindy J. Brumley of Des Plaines, IL, Dr. Patti Abbott-Friedman of Columbia, MD, Sherri L. Comer of Conowingo, MD, and Penny C. Weaver of Campti, LA; two sisters, Ruth Jeanne Hochella of Kalispell, MT and Gloria Edwards of Wadsworth, OH; ten grandchildren, Vanessa Mahmoodi of Knoxville, MD, Nadia A. Mahmoodi of Gaithersburg, MD, James D. Brumley of Kalamazoo, MI, Catherine K. Abbott and Shealyn A. Abbott of Joppa, MD, Kerry L. Abbott of Baltimore City, MD, Ashley L. Comer and Paige N. Comer of Conowingo, MD, Chris A. Weaver Jr. of Campti, LA, and Landon C. Weaver of Seoul, South Korea; and three great-grandchildren, Sean, Logan, & Taylor.

Pallbearers were Rodney D. Comer, Dr. Charles P. Friedman, Mohammad Mahmoodi, James D. Brumley, Dr. J. Douglas Abbott, and Landon C. Weaver. Honorary pallbearers were Chris A. Weaver Sr., Timothy Nicholas, Dennis Nicholas, Chris A. Weaver Jr., Jerry Anderson Jr., Michael Hochella, and John Hochella.
