Anita Rowan Townsley, age 83, of Churchville, MD passed away on December 17, 2012 at Upper Chesapeake Medical Center in Bel Air, MD. Born in New York, NY, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Neil and Viola Mae Orr Rowan. She retired, after 32 years, from Harford County Public Schools where she taught Home Economics and Psychology at Aberdeen High School. She was elected to the 2003 Harford County Public School Teacher's Hall of Fame. She was a member and treasurer of the Harford County Retired Teacher's Association. In 1984 she was presented a citation from Governor Hughes for her volunteer work in Harford County. She was a member of Bel Air United Methodist Church where she was a Lay Leader. She was a member and Scholarship Chairman of the Harford Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. She was President of Tau Chapter, Delta Kappa Gamma Society and past President of Chapter H, Bel Air of the P.E.O. Sisterhood and was a past President of the Maryland State Chapter of the P.E.O. Sisterhood.
Mrs. Townsley is survived by her husband of 62 years, H. Edward Townsley of Bel Air, MD; daughter, Marcia T. Boccia and husband, Harold R., of Bel Air, MD; grandchildren, Karen Ann Davis and Douglas C. Boccia both of Bel Air; and great-grandchildren, Adam and Meghan Davis and Emma and Brock Boccia, all of Bel Air.
Pallbearers will be Douglas Boccia, Gary Davis, Neal Ruff, Nelson Rowan, Charles Brooks and Gerald Townsley.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Cottey College, 1000 W. Austin, Nevada, MO 64772.
