Andrew Ores Jackson, Jr.

ANDREW ORES JACKSON, JR., age 84, of Bel Air, MD, died on June 17, 2006 at the Gilchrist Center for Hospice Care in Towson, MD after a short illness. He was born in Searight, AL on December 5, 1921, the son of the late Andrew Ores Jackson, Sr. and Mattie Miltida Pope Jackson. He was a WWII veteran serving as a Lieutenant (jg) in the U.S. Navy aboard the Aircraft Carrier Escort, U.S.S. Barnes, from 1944-1946. He was a graduate of the University of Florida, and after entering the Navy, studied radar and sonar at M.I.T. and Boudin College in Maine. He was owner and operator of Jackson’s TV & Radio, Bel Air, for 50 years after opening his shop in 1949. Mr. Jackson was a member of Rotary International of Bel Air, the Bel Air Independence Day Committee and served as vice-president, treasurer and membership chairman at the Maryland Golf and Country Club. He was a member of Mt. Carmel Primitive Baptist Church where he served as deacon and trustee.

Mr. Jackson is survived by his wife of 58 years, Felicia Irwin Jackson of Bel Air, MD; one daughter, F. Jeane Plumer, and her husband, James, of Bel Air, MD; one son, Andrew F. Jackson, Sr. of Edgewood, MD; three sisters, Emily J. Bliss of Rockledge, FL, Janice J. James of Sun City Center, FL and Phyllis J. Jones of Thomasville, GA; eight grandchildren, Andrew R. Plumer, F. Kristen Plumer, Rebecca A. Plumer and Christopher J. Plumer, all of Bel Air, MD, Brandy J. King of Charlotte Courthouse, VA, and Andrew F. Jackson, Jr., Tara L. Jackson and Scott O. Jackson, all of Edgewood, MD; and two great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Kim Edgar Sims, Andrew Mack Sims, Christopher Lee Sims, Robert Edward Lee Hasty, Andrew F. Jackson, Sr., and Andrew F. Jackson, Jr.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Mt. Carmel Primitive Baptist Church, 1707 Churchville Road, Bel Air, MD 21015.
