Alvin E. Steelman, age 77, of Havre de Grace, MD, passed away on February 24, 2013 at his home. Born in Yadkinville, NC, he was the son of the late Eugene Fletcher and Oda Rose Edwards Steelman. A veteran of the U.S. Army, he was employed with JM Huber Chemical Corporation over 40 years as a research analyst.
Mr. Steelman is survived by his wife, Audrey A. Steelman; sons, Chris E. Steelman and wife, Lene, of Aberdeen, Sidney L. Steelman and wife, Debbie, of Havre de Grace, Tony V. Steelman and wife, Bambi, of Darlington; daughter, Denise A. Jordan and husband, Kent, of Churchville; brothers, William F., John W. and Larry F. Steelman; sisters, Peggy Fink and Marie Anderson; 12 grandchildren, Katie Steelman, Luke Steelman, Rebecca VanAmburg, Zachary Steelman, Grant Steelman, Austin Steelman, Davis Steelman, Lindsey Steelman, Weston Jordan, Elise Jordan, Dalton Jordan and Wyatt Jordan; and one great-grandson Kyle Van Amburg. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by three brothers, James, Roger and Ronald.
He was a lifetime member of Bel Air church of the Nazarene and served for over 20 years as a trustee of the church. Alvin was a voracious reader on a wide variety of topics. He was an avid outdoorsman and spent much of his spare time gardening, which included an extensive vegetable garden, fruit orchard, and apiary. His other interests included hunting, crabbing and fishing. His custom made shad darts and bucktails were used by countless fisherman in the region. Alvin was much loved for his integrity and his contageous sense of humor. His greatest passion was simply spending quality time with family and friends.
