ALVIN BLAKE, of Bel Air, died March 10 at Upper Chesapeake Medical Center in Bel Air from complications due to pneumonia. He was 86.
Born in Bynum, Maryland, he was the son of the late James Henry and Ella Lavinia Jones Blake and a single man all of his life.
He was a lifetime resident of Harford County and a diary farmer most of his life. He farmed the land now known as Blake’s Venture Park in Forest Hill. He received an award from the Maryland Cooperative Milk Producers, Inc. for over fifty years on continuous milk production.
After retiring from farming, he worked at the Safeway in Forest Hill then for BTR Realty at the Harford Mall. He served on the Bel Air Independence Day Parade Committee for many years during the 1980’s. He was a Volunteer at Fallston General Hospital until it closed. He was a life member of St. Ignatius Catholic Church in Hickory and a life member of the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge #1952 in Forest Hill. He was also a life member of the Knights of Columbus, Council #9729 in Forest Hill and a member of the American Legion Harford Post No. 39 in Bel Air.
Family and friends will always remember him by his humorous jokes, expressions and sayings.
Mr. Blake is survived by a sister, Dorothy Blake Boch of Bel Air and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Mary Lyndell Blake Green and a brother, James Paul Blake.
Pallbearers will be: James R. Blake, Daniel B. Boch, David P. Blake, Stephen Green, John W. Blake and Aaron D. Blake.
