Alton H. Simmons

Alton H. Simmons, age 93, of Churchville, MD passed away on May 18, 2017 at his home. Born in Churchville he was the son of Major and Amelia (Cockerham) Simmons and husband of the late Laura Maxine Simmons. He worked for 30 years at APG as a refrigeration mechanic and retired on March 1, 1984. He was a lifetime member of Oak Grove Baptist Church and spent 60 years singing with various gospel groups. He was a fantastic guitar player and played with "The Ragtime Boys". His passion was studying the Word of God. He served as a Deacon and Sunday School teacher at Oak Grove Baptist Church. He was the most inspired man that his son ever met and one of the "last true gentlemen" left on this earth.

Mr. Simmons is survived by his son, Paul L. Simmons and wife, Deborah Lea of Havre de Grace; brother, Bynum Simmons of Aberdeen; grandchildren, Joseph Simmons of Bel Air, Michelle Davis of Havre de Grace, Jeremy and Tiffany Simmons of Churchville, Stephanie and Seth Walker of Fallston; and five great-grandchildren, Aurora, Xavior, Hadassah and Penelope Walker and Faye Simmons. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his son, Howard Charles Simmons.
