Alphus H. ''Jack'' Sherman

November 22, 1931 — April 1, 2010

Alphus H. "Jack" Sherman, age 78, of Baldwin, MD, died on April 1, 2010 at his home. Born in Sparks, MD, he was the son of the late Alphus Omega and Anna Lillian Smith Sherman. A veteran of the U.S. Navy, he served our country during the Korean Conflict. He retired, after 22 years, with the Maryland State Police and then went to Martin Marietta where he was supervisor of security. Prior to his employment with the State Police, he worked on building the Glen L. Martin Mars Sea Plane.

Mr. Sherman is survived by his wife, Sally Greenfield Sherman of Baldwin, MD; sons, Michael Wayne Sherman Sr. and wife, Jacki Altimus Sherman, of Whiteford, MD and Matthew Warren Sherman, and wife, Judith Lovell Sherman, of Delta, PA; daughters, Amy Jeanette Sherman Heitmuller and husband, Lawrence, of Delta, PA, Elizabeth (Kathy) Sherman Toon of Clarksville, TN, Lois Lorrette Sherman Altimus and husband, James U. Altimus Jr. of Ozark, AR, and Lillian Christine Sherman Mahoney and husband, Dana, of Clarksville, TN; grandchildren, Amy Tart, David Heitmuller, Daniel Heitmuller, Shannon Leigh Praschak and husband, Danny, Brendan Jacob Earl, Cody Allen Earl, Austin Lee Earl, Nathan Praschak, Austin (Scooter) Praschak, Dylan Praschak, Andrea Lorraine Meden, Heather Rae Toon Gray and husband, Michael, Jessica Paige Toon, Abigail Marie Altimus, Charles Russell Altimus, Kellie Ann Mahoney, Michael Wayne Sherman Jr., Christopher James Sherman; great-grandchildren, Faith, Noah and Levi Tart, Nathaniel and Caleb Heitmuller, Layton Carter Gray, and Jacen Wayne Sherman; and brothers, Robert David Sherman of Deaton, MD and Michael Smith Sherman of Baltimore, MD. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Amy Annette Skinner Sherman; and sisters, Marjory Mae Sherman Scarff and Hattie Elizabeth Moxley.

Pallbearers were Bob Isennock, David Greenfield, John Estep, Ray Leard, J.D. Thomas, Michael Sherman Sr., Matthew Sherman, and Lawrence Heitmuller. Honorary pallbearers were Michael Sherman Jr., Christopher Sherman, David Hetimuller, Daniel Heitmuller, and Christopher Tart.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Maryland State Police Troopers Association, Lodge 96, 1401 Bel Air Road, Bel Air, MD 21014.
