Alphonzo Grice, age 97, of Aberdeen, Maryland passed away on January 6, 2020 at Care Tech in Edgewood, Maryland. Born in Wilson Mills, North Carolina, he was the son of Lonnie and Cornelia (Sanders) Grice and husband of the late Carrie Grice. He was a veteran of the U.S.Army, serving with General Douglas McArthur, liberating the Philippines. He was part of the occupational force in Japan. He was a very active member of his church, teaching Sunday School, and singing in the choir. He was also very active in the community, giving his time generously and helping people whenever he could. He was a descendent of slaves, a member of the NACCP, and active in civil rights He loved to sing, to include singing in the Smithfield Chorus in High School and sang on many different radio stations. Alphonzo loved politics, fishing, and sports, baseball being his favorite.
Alphonzo is survived by his son, Alphonzo Ricardo Grice of Aberdeen and his wife, Dorothea; daughter, Vonetta Hayes; Sinaquan and Janea "Little Bit", who became part of their family; seven grandchildren; and many loving great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by four sisters and four brothers.
