Alma "Betty" Anderson

September 1, 1947 — December 19, 2021

Alma "Betty" Anderson, age 74, of Bel Air, Maryland passed away on December 19, 2021, at Upper Chesapeake Medical Center in Bel Air, Maryland. Born in North East, Maryland, she was the daughter of Joseph and Esther (Painter) Wyre and wife to Michael Anderson.

In addition to her husband, Betty is survived by sons, Aaron Michael Anderson of Charlotte, NC; and Douglas Ray Anderson of Bel Air, MD, grandson, Wyatt Douglas Anderson of Charlotte, NC; granddaughter, Eleanor Reynolds Anderson of Charlotte, NC; sister, Brenda Louise Clark; two brothers, Lawrence Hall, James Gilbert Hall.

In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by sisters, Shirley Regina Fulker and Joann Tenorio.

After graduating from Bel Air High School, she worked full-time, including sales and babysitting (which she never thought of as a job), attended classes at Harford Community College and was involved with the Harford theater as a player and set constructor. She was married in the summer of 1967 to Michael, loved her family and in-laws. Never afraid to work hard or get her hands dirty. She spent countless hours sewing and crocheting making beautiful clothes, curtains, and blankets.

She made a wonderful home to raise her children, always decorating for each holiday to fill the house with light and love. Family vacations were crammed with fun activities and lots of weekend trips in a little pop-up camper with pancakes. She enjoyed crafting with her sisters and her friends, including ceramics and home décor. Always making time to see Aunts and Uncles, Cousins and Friends. Among her many talents she excelled at wallpapering, painting, gardening, and making delicious meals for her hungry boys. She worked in home interiors, retail positions, achieving her real estate license and many years in childcare.

She babysat for many friends and neighbors’ children after hers were grown and loved them like her own. With a legendary smile and endless hugs, she loved her grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews. She kept school photos, graduation pictures, birthday announcements, wedding announcements and thousands of other photographs. She always enjoyed giving gifts and never could believe how fast the kids would grow.

Holiday parties with the family always felt special because of her kindness and creativity. She loved God and to listen to music (especially Elvis Presley), to play cards, to read crafting books, self-improvement books, romance novels and she never liked movies or tv shows where people got hurt. She was our touchstone and was always there for a kind word or good advice.

She was always a caring Mom, even before she had her own kids. She was extraordinarily unselfish, always there for people, even when she had health problems, she would think of others first. Greatest of all, she had unconditional Love, which is a truly rare quality. Anyone that knew her could feel it from the first time they met her. She will be greatly missed.

A celebration of life will be held in the Spring of 2022 at her home.
