Allison G. Thomson-Vicuna of East Granby, Connecticut passed away on July 13th 2019
at the age of 49. With the support of her husband and the health professionals at St. Francis
Hospital in Hartford, Allison waged a heroic, decade-long struggle against ovarian cancer.
Allison would not to let the cancer stand in her way. In 2017 she finished 3rd at the Westminster Kennel Club Masters Agility 20-inch class after qualifying for the finals multiple years. She would also qualify for the AKC National Agility Championship in multiple years.
Born in Hartford CT, Allison moved as a child to Atlanta and then Maryland. She graduated in 1988 from C. Milton Wright High School in Bel Air. Allison was first employed by the Bureau of Labor Statistics and she then moved to T. Rowe Price as an investment analyst. Most recently she was a Senior Director with Travelers Insurance in Hartford.
From an early age Allison had a passion for pushing herself to reach her full potential. From
survival camping with Outward Bound to hiking the Alps, she also sought to expand her view of the world and her place in it. As a teen she began a lifelong love of distance running, becoming the captain or co-captain of all her school’s cross country and track teams as well as competing at the collegiate level at Towson University. She placed in several running events, including the Hartford Half-Marathon. Early on she was an avid equestrian competitor, which led her to be invited to try out for the USA women’s modern pentathlon.
Allison is survived by her devoted partner and husband of 17 years Mark Vicuna, a sister
Serena Thomson and her husband Rob Himberger of Catonsville, MD and her father Dr.
George Thomson of Churchville, MD. She was pre-deceased in 2015 by her mother and fellow animal fancier Dr. Sandra Thomson.
