Allen G. Mews was born in Milwaukee, WI and attended Wauwatosa Senior High School, graduating on 18 June 1945. Al was inducted into the Army as a Private on 25 June 1945, one week after graduation. After a short period of time, he decided to make the Army his career. In the years that followed, Al was assigned to Fort Knox, KY (twice); Fort Bragg, NC (twice); Fort Benning, GA; Bucknell University-Lewisburg, PA; Fort Holabird, MD (four times); Baltimore, MD; Aberdeen Proving Ground, MD; Germany (twice); Japan; Korea and Vietnam (twice) not in the order as shown. He retired from the Army as a Major on 31 July 1974 after 29 years of service. In February 1975, Al reentered federal service with the Army as a civilian Security Specialist and held several positions at Aberdeen Proving Ground, MD until 31 December 1989 when he retired for the second time after 43 years of federal service. Awards included the Bronze Star Medal for Meritorious Service (three times) and numerous other medals, service ribbons, qualification badges and civilian citations. Al received a BA degree in General Studies (cum laude) from the University of Maryland.
Mr. Mews is survived by his wife Florence Mews of Churchville, MD; daughters, Kathryn Ann Hodges of Hanover, MD and Mary Margaret Jarstfer and husband, Douglas, of Brunswick, OH; brother, Marvin Mews of Phoenix, AZ; grandchildren, Ryan and Julia Hodges, Sarah Powell, Andrew Jarstfer and James Mews; and great-grandchildren, Riley and Madison Powell and Brandon Hodges. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his son, Michael Allen Mews; son-in-law, Tony Hodges; and brother, Robert Mews.
