Alice “Ruth” moved with her family in 1942 to Essex, MD. She married Dorsey Hamrick in 1946. She worked at the Martin Marietta Corporation for ten years, was co-owner of Hill Top Diner in Street, MD and retired after 30 years at Fallston General Hospital. Ruth was a charter member of Dublin-Darlington VFW post 10146. She was known to many simply as “Mom” not only by her children, but many children in the area. She always had good food to eat and you couldn’t leave her house without eating something. Everyone loved her famous fried chicken, chicken and dumplings and her homemade bread. On Christmas Eve her family had only one place to be, with no exception. Everyone in the community was welcome to share in the holiday.

Ruth lived in the Street-Dublin area for over 55 years. She was a marching Mother for the Dublinaires marching corp. She volunteered at the Veterans Affairs in Perryville with the VFW post from Aberdeen. Her kids were her pride and joy and she was always so proud of the families they raised and their service to the community. She loved to garden, and would share her beautiful flowers with her neighbors to brighten their day. She loved July every year because it was family reunion time where she got to see her extended family. She will be missed by many in the community and to all that knew and loved her. Rest in peace our sweet Mother.
