Alex Sonberg

H. Alexander Sonberg, Jr., age 73, of Joppa, MD passed away on March 7, 2017 at his home. Born in Havre de Grace, MD, he was the son of Henry Alexander Sonberg, Sr. and Lillian (Rokytova) Sonberg. Born and raised in Abingdon MD, Alex was a 1961 graduate of Edgewood High School. In 1967, he graduated from Lehigh University where he received a BS in Business Administration and later he received an MS in Information Systems from SUNY Binghamton in NY. He worked for IBM and later in life, worked for W.R. Grace in Baltimore. He worked in the Information Technology field for most of his career and was a Telecommunications Manager before he retired in 2001. He enjoyed hunting, golfing, traveling and loved skiing, boating and fishing. He could fix anything, and especially liked working on cars. He also enjoyed playing bridge. In his younger years, he was involved with the Abingdon Volunteer Fire Company and the National Guard.

Mr. Sonberg is survived by his wife, Barbara Joan Sonberg, whom he married in 1968; his son, Gregory A. Sonberg of Edgewood, his daughter, Joanne E. Sonberg of Abingdon, his brother, Gregory E. Sonberg of Crownsville, and grandsons, Thomas Alexander Leisher and Christopher Lee Leisher.
