Albert Ernest Ragan, age 87, of Churchville, MD passed away peacefully on September 17, 2015. Born in Oakwood, MD, he is the son of the late Russell Ernest and Ruth Marie (Thomas) Ragan. A veteran of the U.S. National Guard, he was a graduate of Bel Air High School, Class of 1945. He worked as Deputy Sheriff of Harford County from 1957-1962, owned and operated Fountain Green Food Market from 1962-1965, and was a realtor for Harry Hopkins Real Estate. An involved member of the community, Mr. Ragan was the "unofficial mayor of Churchville", president of the Harford County chapter of the American Cancer Society, co-founded the Bel Air Auction Gallery, was a Ruritan member, a member of Bel Air Legion Post 39, and was a former member of Calvary United Methodist Church where he served on the board of directors as treasurer. An avid horse race enthusiast, he was a fan of wrestling and the Orioles, loved crabbing, travelling, a good bargain, and selling cars. A family man and the rock of his family, he was a wonderful, compassionate, and devoted father, grandfather, and great grandfather.
Mr. Ragan is survived by his wife of 65 years, Lacy L. (Weaver) Ragan; sons,
Thomas W. Ragan (Rita) of Havre de Grace and Danny R. Ragan (Ann) of Darlington; daughter, Brenda R. Taylor (Thomas) of Darlington; grandchildren, Garrett, Wesley, and Andrew Ragan; and great grandchildren, Elizabeth and Rebecca Ragan.
Pallbearers were Garrett, Andrew and Wesley Ragan, Jerry Thomas, Roger Pritt and Jon Quesenberry Jr. Honorary pallbearers were James Tillis, Raymond K.O. Class, Thomas Taylor, Edward Ragan and Joseph Rush.
