Albert Easton Smith Jr., age 66, of Joppa, MD, died while on vacation in California on February 4, 2012 at Tehachapi Hospital. Born September 2, 1945 in Baltimore, MD, he was the son of the late Albert Easton Smith Sr. and Norma Lee Hissey Smith. Mr. Smith is survived by his wife, Barbara Lynne Scott Smith of Joppa, MD; son, Jason Albert Smith and wife, Lesley Carter Barrett Smith, of Abingdon, MD; daughter, Kelly Renee McLaren of Jacksonville, FL; brother, Kenneth Russell Smith of Salisbury, MD; and grandchildren, Isabel Lynne McLaren, Easton Thomas McLaren, Grant Barrett Smith and Carson Turner Smith.
A math teacher and faculty chairman, Bert retired after 35 years, from Baltimore County Public Schools where he was admired by both faculty and students. His children considered him to be a mathematical genius. Bert had a love of numbers that he shared with everyone around him. He was also a comedian at heart; he enjoyed performing; he was a Jimmy Buffet fan; and he loved the beach. Bert loved to play games and was a lifelong supporter of the Preakness Stakes. He was a passionate fan of the Baltimore Colts, Ravens, and Orioles.
Bert was a longstanding member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Joppa and the Rev. Charles H. Lashley will officiate at his service.
