ALBERT A. DePROSPERO, COL, (USA RETIRED) age 76, of Aberdeen, MD, died suddenly on September 9, 2006, at Union Memorial Hospital, Baltimore, MD. Born in Philadelphia, PA, he was the son of the late Albert Americo and Madelena Teresa Farina DeProspero. He served a short time in the Merchant Marines, the Marine Reserves, and then attended officer candidate school, where he became a commissioned officer. Colonel DeProspero had a long and distinguished military career and was the proud recipient of many awards and honors. He served his country during the Korean Conflict, in Laos and Vietnam. Later, he commanded the 5th Special Forces Group in Fort Bragg, NC. Additionally, he was stationed at the Pentagon and with the office of the Joint Chief of Staff before retiring. He retired as a Colonel in 1984. After his retirement, he was still very active and well respected among his peers and continued working as a consultant to many private companies. He had a boundless desire to serve our nation and our troops, he was always a soldier at heart. He was a past member of the Aberdeen Lions Club and a member of the Harford County Chamber of Commerce and the Sovereign Order of the Knights of Malta, as well as many other professional and civic organizations. Colonel “D”, as he was affectionately called, loved his grandchildren, was proud of their accomplishments and enjoyed attending their sporting events He looked forward to his annual fishing trip in Canada. He was always ready with a good story and had a tremendous capacity for finding greatness in others while he personally approached the world with humility. He loved people and never forgot a face or rarely forgot a name. Colonel “D” helped anyone in need and continued to believe in the goodness of his fellow man. He will be greatly missed by his family and peers.
Colonel DeProspero is survived by his wife of 51 years, Jacqueline Frances Pine DeProspero of Aberdeen,, MD; four sons, Albert Richard DeProspero of Brandon, FL, John Thomas DeProspero of Aberdeen, MD, Michael Ronald DeProspero of Havre de Grace, MD, and Christopher Jospeh DeProspero of Aberdeen, MD; two daughters, Evelyn Frances Vaughn of Bel Air, MD, and Christine Marie Ferris of Eielson Air Force Base, Alaska; two brothers, Nicholas James DeProspero of Springfield, PA, and William Vincent DeProspero of Hines, IL. He is also survived by nine grandchildren.
