Abigail Early

ABIGAIL EARLY, age 63 of Havre de Grace, died at Harford Memorial Hospital on May 23, 2004. Born in New Haven, CT., she was the daughter of the late Francis Martin and Evelyn Marie Franz Early. She attended Massachusetts Hospital School in Canton, MA. for grades 9-12 and graduated in 1960. She received job training at Goodwill Industries of Western, CT. She was employed by the Southern New England Telephone Co. for a number of years. Born with spina bifida and confined to a wheelchair, she overcame great obstacles to receive education and employment. Upon retirement she moved to Havre de Grace in order to be close to friends. She was a disability rights advocate who championed the cause of the disability community. During her retirement years, she enjoyed wheeling around Havre de Grace, meeting people, and participating in the community life. She was an active member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church in Churchville and also attended Havre de Grace United Methodist Church where she attended a weekly prayer circle. Gail was greatly loved by those who knew her and will be dearly missed.

Ms. Early is survived by two sisters; Alice DeRose of Connecticut; and Sara Early of Connecticut.

Contributions may be made in her memory to the Children of Zion, Inc., an orphanage she helped support in Namibia, Africa.
